Entering blogger giveaways

**THIS POST IS NOT TO WIN ANY OF THESE ITEMS IT IS JUST A POST ABOUT GIVEAWAYS**

I have seen giveaways featuring on blogs for a while now and I am undecided in two minds whether they are a good idea or not. On one hand I think they are a great way of getting to know about other lesser known blogs and engaging audiences who would not have heard of that blog otherwise, but on the other hand I think they are a shameless way of gaining more followers for your blog. I guess that they are both when I really think about it one wouldn't be without the other.

I really like the idea of giveaways, my favourite type of giveaways are the ones on Twitter. A simple retweet and you are entered into the competition. Dave Lackie has the best ones.  My least favourite is the rafflecopter ones which make you do a little more. I guess that separates those who really want the prize against those who can't be bothered to fill the form.

Also once the give away is over are those people still going to follow and read your blog or are they just going to unsubscribe and your follower count drops?

I guess I may be cynical when it comes to giveaways, but I am sitting on the side of the fence with giveaways allow for lesser known blogs to be noticed and opened up to new audiences. I am all for blog giveaways I quite like to enter a few of them in one go. I have not won any blog giveaways in the 2 years I have been blogging. Although I have won a few things on Twitter and Instagrams, which are brilliant.

Have you entered any giveaways recently? If not then here are a few to enter to win the Naked 2 basics pallet.

  1. I think what really separates the two, is the twitter ones where you only have to retweet, are doing it to be kind and/or to spread the word about their product. The raffelcopter ones normally require you to follow them. I don't have any problem with people doing that but I can't help but wonder, will the people just go and unfollow them once the giveaway is over? I want people to follow me because they like my content, not because they want to win something. I haven't done a giveaway before, I'm not sure if I would in the future or not. I just feel a little bit undecided on how I feel about them to be honest!

    1. That's exactly what I wonder all the time. I also want people to follow and read my blog because they enjoy it not because I am giving away something. I did a give away when I was at 80 followers and it was to reach 100 followers. I don't think many people entered because I don't think the prize was that great, but I'm not sure if the followers stuck around or not. I'm in the middle of the road too.

  2. I have done only two giveaways within a year and frankly I am not planning to do any more than that. There are some blogs that host lots of giveaways, I know a few that genuinely trying to reward and share goodies with their readers and the others, well....I don't quite feel it. I have been okay as most of my newly gained followers stayed and a lot became regulars so I take it as a sign that my blog is improving. :-)
I've never heard of Dave Lackie before but will check him out after this! Seems like a really cool way to host giveaways through Twitter. xx

    1. I don't know if you'll agree with this or not, but I think that the people who are sent tones and tones of products to review should do their review and then place them either as giveaways on their blog - saying the product has been tested or do a blog sale. I see these big bloggers and YouTubers with draws and draws of make up and I think how can they possibly use all of that in a life time? why not share a little. Having 60 blushes, do you really need all of them?

It's really cool that you have done some giveaways, I do think it gets your blog noticed, I am just wondering if those people stick around or not. I never know whether people like my blog or not.

You should get following Dave Lackie - he always has competitions and he's a Canadian like us.

    1. He's great. I love engaging in conversation with him. I haven't won anything in a while now. Really want to win something again. It was really fun :)

  4. I was also in two minds about giveaways, but I like to think of them more as a thank you to my current followers rather than as a way to get more, I don't usually hugely publicise them other than little shout outs on my blog. I also disqualify any entries that are just from those competition sites, and I say that as they are the people who will just follow and unfollow. Plus for both of mine so far, another fellow blogger has won and it's so nice to make someones day with a prize! :) x

    1. I hadn't thought about my current followers. They should be rewarded as they tend to get forgotten about. How do you tell if they are from competition sites? I am not very good with stats or giveaways. Yes that makes sense that a fellow blogger wins :)
